The L. Frank Pitts Energy Leadership Award recognizes individuals who have
demonstrated distinguished leadership, and achievement in the field of energy. The Award is given anually to honor the person that reflects Frank Pitts’ legacy
of entrepreneurship, ethical leadership and success in energy. The recipients will be leaders in a business, government, or not-for profit organizations and must have demonstrated business conduct that reflects the highest level of integrity and ethical standards. Past recipients include Ray Hunt, David Miller, Scott Sheffield, Rex Tillerson, Ken Hersh, Travis Stice and others.
Frank Pitts legacy is long and distinguished. An independent oil and natural gas
producer for almost seven decades, he participated in the drilling of more than 3,000
wells in exploration for oil and natural gas. Mr. Pitts was a dynamic spokesman for
the energy industry in the United States and a frequent expert witness and conferee
in Washington with members of the Senate, the House of Representatives, and
Executive leadership concerned with oil and natural gas policy. Mr. Pitts was a
leader in the Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA), the American
Petroleum Institute, the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission, the Gas
Research Institute and the National Petroleum Council. He was honored by many of
these organizations with their highest awards. Following a vigorous and productive
life, Mr. Pitts died peacefully in March 2009 at the age of 98 ½.

The Maguire Energy Institute Pioneer Award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and innovation in the field of energy.
The Award also recognizes a tried-and-true legacy of entrepreneurship, ethical leadership and innovation in the energy industry. Recipients are leaders in
a business, government, or not-for profit organizations related to the field of energy. Individuals selected to receive the Award will have exhibited outstanding leadership and championed innovation in the broad field of energy and must have demonstrated business and personal conduct that reflects the highest level of integrity and moral and ethical standards. Past recipients include John P. Harbin, Louis Beecherl, Jr., Forrest E. Hoglund, Cary M. Maguire, Bobby B. Lyle, Dan Yergin and others.
